Why invest in staff training?
Training is the best investment that employers can make to show staff that they are a valued part of a business. Richard Branson says “Train them well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to” Branson and many other business leaders see the importance of training their employees.
What are the benefits of training your employees?
Below are just four of the many benefits:
- Improves motivation
Your employees will appreciate the opportunity to learn new skills and many of the clients I work with report an improvement in morale following staff training.
- Increased client satisfaction
When your employees feel satisfied and appreciated they are more willing to go the extra mile for your clients which in turn results in your clients feeling more satisfied with your business. This is great news for your business as client satisfaction has a positive impact on your sales revenue.
- Your managers will have more time
If you invest in training your staff they will feel more confident to make decisions and therefore need less supervision from their manager.
- Improves efficiency
Training your staff will improve their efficiency and value to your business. One way to improve efficiency is to cross train your employees. Very often standards drop and your clients are affected when only one person who has the knowledge to do something is on annual leave or off sick. To avoid this happening in your business, ensure that you train staff in more than one part of the business.
Mind the gap!
If you really want to see the benefits of investing in training your employees ‘mind the gap’. One of the suggestions I make to my clients before starting any training programme with their team is to work out the gap between where their employees are now and where they want them to be. If you miss this important part of the process you will risk spending a huge amount of money on training that may not be correct for some or all of your employees.
